Mountaineering Scotland has welcomed the relaxations but urged people heading for the hills this weekend to make sure they are properly prepared and ready to be flexible in their plans.

In several cities with the largest, often most decrepit public transit systems, residents have literally headed for the hills to places beyond mass transport networks.

When the storms do come, those outdoor enthusiasts head for the hills all at once, and this year, cabin fever brought on by coronavirus containment measures is driving even more people outside.

One mother told BBC Wales she sometimes felt like "heading for the hills".
