An original pair of red glitter slippers worn by Judy Garland in the famous film The Wizard of Oz are going on display in central London.

Nearby, Manny Yekutiel, the owner of Manny’s, a restaurant and civic gathering space in the city’s Mission District, was buzzing around showing off his “patriotic nails” painted red white and blue and festooned with glitter.

What happened, of course, was this: a glittering disco-soul fantasia that still ranks as one of the greatest album openers in pop history.

The glass panels gleam in the sun, like an outsize version of the prismatic bluish-purple gem that glitters in the light.

He wore flared jeans, a pink sweatshirt and pink sneakers, and his gold grills glittered as he spoke.
