febrile disease

This is a febrile disease, and is treated with a cooling purgative, bleeding, and oil or lard applied to the sores.

DEFINITION.—Dengue is a peculiar febrile disease, generally appearing epidemically in tropical or semi-tropical regions, and characterized by a single paroxysm with or without remissions, severe pains, and stiffness in the joints and muscles, a peculiar exanthematous eruption, and almost never terminating fatally.

The last has no special relation to this affection, as it is met with in almost every febrile disease, but it has sometimes extended to the whole face in this one.

Vertigo is present more frequently and in a more persistent form than in any other febrile disease.

Measles is essentially a febrile disease, having a peculiar type of fever; r�theln may run its whole course without appreciable rise of temperature.
