In “The Last Waltz,” the director cinematically captured the star-studded farewell performance of the Band, Robertson’s virtuosic outfit that shared a constellation with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and a dozen other 1960s legends who joined them onstage that night.

“Firebird” was special for another reason, too: It was in this ballet that the principal Jared Angle, a scrupulous dancer and a marvel of a partner, gave his farewell performance.

And, eight days before his scheduled farewell performance, Amar Ramasar suffered an injury while performing Jerome Robbins’s “Four Seasons.”

On Sunday, the season ended with Ramasar’s farewell performance, the luminous Divertissement pas de deux in Balanchine’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” opposite Sterling Hyltin.

Last fall, as City Ballet prepared to return to its theater at Lincoln Center, Ms. Lillo made plans to dance the ballet “Russian Seasons” for her farewell performance.
