The specimen is complete with nearly every single bone preserved and unusually, it is preserved in three dimensions, where most pterosaurs tend to be crushed flat.

“There are lots of hypotheses for what the source of those metals could be, and this adds another dimension,” said Josh West, professor of earth sciences and environmental studies at USC.

But there is a political dimension to what Kapadia is doing here, one that crystallizes at roughly the halfway mark, when the film bursts out of its confines, as do the women.
