Forty years after they began the task – and nearly four hundred years after receiving their first commission – sages in Paris have finally produced a new edition of the definitive French dictionary.

“To me, the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff,” the president-elect said last month.

"Tariff is the most beautiful world in the dictionary," he said.

I’m staggered at the stupidity of people who bandy around dangerous words without having looked them up in the dictionary.

Collins' lexicographers, who put together their dictionaries, look at social media and other sources to determine which words should be added to their annual list of new and notable words.
