Since Wednesday's flight, the UK government has said it will charter a "limited" number of flights from Beirut to evacuate "hundreds" of British nationals and their dependents.

It's estimated there are up to 6,000 UK nationals including dependents in Lebanon - some of whom have managed to secure last seats on departing commercial flights this week.

It expressed concerns about the previous Conservative government’s announcement to limit dependents coming to Britain.

That came after a previously-announced ban on most overseas students bringing dependents with them.

But earlier this year the Conservative government hiked migrant health care costs, making it more expensive to bring dependents, and boosted the minimum earnings required for a visa.
