Depending on the type of mattress you have, baking soda can be a powerful deodorizing agent.

When introduced separately, the fat, water and protein components of yogurt also had a deodorizing effect on raw garlic, but fat and protein performed better than water.

These oils are exposed to extremely high heat, sometimes bleached, sometimes deodorized because they smell so bad after such extraction measures; the heat alone can turn these oils into trans fats.

Once you've deodorized and scrubbed your cutting board, don't forget to give it—and the rest of your station—a good wash, especially if you've been working with raw proteins.
