compend

An epitome or compend, as of a book; a shortened or abridged form; an abbreviation.

His papers are a rare compend of literary criticism.

These lectures are said to be “the first example of a popular compend of religion,” and are particularly interesting for the insight which they give us both into the creed-forms of the early church and the various ceremonies of initiation constituting baptism in the 4th century.

It might be considered that such a compend of information would be very dry-as-dust reading and that it would be fragmentary in character and little likely to be attractive except to a serious student.
