There will be the usual holiday rebound traffic but the worst is over, travel experts said, as Thanksgiving Day’s long-distance commuters began their journeys home this weekend.

Opened in time for the 2012 Olympics, the cable car has struggled to attract regular commuters with passenger figures declining over the last decade.

The Liberal Democrats have called for the government to U-turn on the cap decision, with the party saying it will hit both commuters and local businesses.

"We think that the 'Mr Big' is probably a faceless commuter. I do not know him."

With some luck, though, the chief executive of the commuter rail service will have socks.
