The recent sale of a major retail hub and the closure of a longtime outdoor clothier in downtown Seattle are emblematic of the challenges and issues facing the city and region.

Most of the stores — big chains such as Sears, H&M and Forever 21, as well as little toy shops and boutique clothiers — were empty, dark and drafty, their metal gates permanently down.

The now historic images of that horrific day were captured by snapshots and home movie camera footage taken by people in the crowd, including the 26-second 8mm film shot by Dallas clothier Abraham Zapruder.

So the Golden Bear, who had an endorsement deal with Hart, Schaffner and Marx, asked that Cincinnati-based clothier to make him a green jacket.

The clothier has endeared itself to generations of parents with attention to detail, such as techniques in attaching buttons to keep them from becoming a choking hazard.
