The elections commission held an emergency meeting Friday, less than two weeks before the Nov. 8 election, and unanimously voted to rescind the guidance issued in August detailing how an already cast ballot could be spoiled.

Commissioners have previously dismissed the referendum, in which 17% of registered voters cast ballot, as reflecting the will of a “bare minority.”

Nearly 60% of voters who cast ballot last week backed the measure eliminating all criminal penalties for simple marijuana possession.

Some appeared to recognize this Wednesday by calling to “count every legally cast ballot.”

“It’s a sign that the process is working, our clerks are following the law and that every lawfully cast ballot is being counted.”
