Back in another era, when Harlem night life was famous for high style, hot music and classy dancing, the community was a magnet for uptown entertainers and downtown cafe society.

The “Cafe Society” and “A Simple Favor” star also posted another story showing that she was joined in London by jewelry designers Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira Sandberg, who designed Lively’s tiara and earrings for the gala.

After the critical and popular success of “In Cold Blood,” Capote resumed work on “Answered Prayers,” a novel for which he had grand ambitions: It should do to the denizens of New York cafe society what Marcel Proust had done to French aristocrats in his multivolume “In Search of Lost Time” — expose their well-heeled shallowness.

“She said, ‘I will not be part of this,’ ” said Karen Chilton, who wrote the book “Hazel Scott: The Pioneering Journey of a Jazz Pianist, From Cafe Society to Hollywood to HUAC.”

DTH will tour the ballet to Charleston Oct. 20-21, Seattle on Nov. 5, and, in 2023, to New York and Worcester, Mass. In the Washington area, WPA continues its Scott celebration with “A Night at Cafe Society,” Nov. 11 at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club, with live performances and archival audio and video.
