The research project involves 16 academic institutions and NHS trusts and health boards from across the UK, working alongside 12 bioscience and technology companies.

"This unique defense system could be a target for treatment or prevention," said David Taylor, associate professor of molecular biosciences at UT and an author on the paper.

These cultures exist across science but are currently relatively disconnected in the biosciences.

One works in biotech/bioscience, one in film media and one has a job in the fitness industry.

"The goal is to eventually ferment medicines like this in large quantities," said Andrew Ellington, a professor of molecular biosciences and author of the study.
