Labour has been criticised for its gloomy outlook with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer having warned that the Budget will be "painful" but Chancellor Rachel Reeves recently attempted to strike a more upbeat note, saying that Britain’s “best days lie ahead”.

“I think a lot of people say their weddings are the best days of their life, or the day that their children are born. She didn't have either of those occasions in her life, so I guess her ‘FUNeral’ was for her that day.”

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said he believed "Scotland's best days lie ahead of us" and Alex Cole-Hamilton of the Scottish Liberal Democrats described the Parliament as a "cathedral of ideas" which had shown it could be "transformative" for people's lives.

Speaking ahead of her speech Reeves said there will be "difficult choices" but the country's "best days lie ahead".

"Honestly, playing for England were the best days of my life. I just loved it. I loved travelling with the team and having the laughs we had," said Duggan.
