back at you

When you walk up the stairwell at Bute House, the official residence of Scotland’s first minister in Edinburgh, looking back at you are each of the occupiers of that office over the last quarter of a century or so.

“And it doesn’t get any more diagnostic than that, seeing these giant tyrannosaurus teeth starring back at you.”

The TV set is in your house, and you’re sitting six feet away from it, and especially in the wee hours of the night, whatever’s staring back at you can feel eerie, or impertinent.
