In the Russian Far East, Vladimir Putin delivered a warning to the West: don't even think about sending soldiers - and that includes peacekeepers - to Ukraine.

They have received training as soldiers, not as peacekeepers; they are not officers who are sworn to protect and serve.

Police departments have walked a fine line between being peacekeepers and crimefighters, a distinction that has been difficult to make at times amid controversial shootings and past enforcements.

"I'm the guy that officers will come to resolve conflicts," he said, describing himself as a "peacekeeper".

"Peacekeeping is the most noble cause of all, and the role of the peacekeeper must at all times be honoured and respected," he said.
