Rajoelina has said he has gone into hiding for his own safety, and his whereabouts remain unclear.

"I'm really, really good at hiding it, but behind closed doors it's sheer panic," she explains.

Thousands of young Burmese men chose to flee, going into hiding or exile overseas, or joining the resistance.
