Long before Tyrannosaurus rex walked the Earth, sap engulfed a spider guarding her egg sac.

A characteristic feature is the white corrugated egg-sac attached to the end of the body (Fig. 5).

A lycosid spider (Pardosa lapidicina) carrying an egg sac was basking on an inclined rock surface.

In the specimen figured, the egg-sac was concealed in the upper part of the web.

Fig. 108 represents the large egg-sac of one of the orb weavers.

These eggs hatch early in the winter; but no spiders emerge from the egg-sac until the following spring.
