In 1979, the artist’s first permanent public art commission — a 15-by-40-foot drape painting created for the lobby of Atlanta’s Richard B. Russell Federal Building — was rumored to have been almost thrown away by workmen who mistook it for a painter’s splotchy dropcloth.

Thanks to this bin they’ll be easy to find when I need to put down a dropcloth, light the charcoal grill or housebreak a puppy.

If you don’t have a garage or other place to paint, or if you have a built-in bookcase, clear away nearby clutter and spread a dropcloth to protect your flooring.

Spread a dropcloth if you have one, and wear goggles and thick gloves.
