"The defendants' alleged greed not only established an unfair advantage for select bettors, but also sullied the reputation of America's pastime," FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher Raia said in a statement.

The indictment states the alleged scheme started as early as May 2023 with Clase, who purposely threw pitches outside the strike zone so bettors could win proposition bets.

Prosecutors in the baseball case said the pitchers agreed in advance with their co-conspirators on specific pitches they would throw, the bettors using that inside information to place hundreds of fraudulent bets.

Prosecutors said the bettors wagered on whether certain Clase pitches would be balls or strikes, as well as the speed of the pitches starting in May 2023.

Concerns regarding Rozier and Jones involved shared inside information with bettors who placed wagers and won.
