Helicopter footage captured by NBC7 News showed smoke engulfing several hillside structures as ground crews attacked the flames with hoses and a fixed-wing plane dropped water from above.

Riot police were attacked with bricks and fireworks last year, despite the restrictions, and a female police officer was injured when the window of her vehicle was shattered.

"He said, 'Can you come, this guy attacked me. I don't know why, I just closed the main door. He's threatening me.'"
